Quest Diagnostics and LabCorp had information stolen when a breach happened with a third-party collections vendor American Medical Collection Agency (AMCA). This has resulted to compromising almost 12 million customer records between August 1, 2017 up to March 30. 2019. LabCorp has stated that 7.7 million of its patients were also affected by the AMCA breach
The attack was specifically targeted to breach AMCA’s website. This is in line with the latest breaches that has been going on with major companies like British Airways, Ticketmaster and Newegg late last year.
Since Quest Diagnostics is the world’s leading provider of diagnostic testing, information and services that patients and doctors need to make better healthcare decisions are key things they need to secure.
The information that got compromised are as follows:
• Patient names
• Dates of birth
• Addresses
• Phone numbers
• Dates of service
• Providers and balance information.
• Social Security numbers
• LabCorp disclosed that about 200,000 people also had their credit card or bank account information stolen.
There is an open investigation to determine if patient records may have been accessed. Affected patients will be notified. As of this writing, they have stated that medical data and laboratory test results were not exposed.
