According to Microsoft, Windows 10 will be its last operating system wherein which they have extended their support lifetime until 2026.
They have just released their Windows 10 Anniversary update which they have dubbed as 1607 using the the year and month label which they have adopted. They have also refreshed their support lifecycle database to signal a one year extension to their windows 10 Enterprise release.
July 2015 was the first “Long-term Servicing Branch,” dubbed LTSB release build 1507 ans was guaranteed support until October 14, 2025.
There is also a newer release build 1607 last week. However, they have expressed that this one will be supported until October 13, 2026. This would allow corporations to update if they wished.
Windows 10 Home and Pro support life cycles remain until October 2025 eventhough the Enterprise was fiven until 2026 due to the 1607 release.
Users who have the 1507 build will receive security updates until October 2025. However, IT personnel will have to replace the 1507 to 1607 to obtain the additional year of security updates.
Microsoft extension gives credence to their announcement that Windows 10 will be “the last version of Windows”, although technially true, clearly emphasizes their intention of making it a software-as-a-service.
