ALERT: MALWAREBYTES SLOWING DOWN COMPUTERS DUE TO UPDATES CONTAINING BUGS

Malwarebytes protection update causes memory and CPU resources issues including web protection issues.

We have experienced this issue first hand. After our computers have received updates from Malwarebytes, it began to act up. Browsing the internet started to have problems and the computers began to be quite unresponsive. Web protection alert seems to be turned off and have difficulty turning it back on. We did not expect the issue to come from a product like Malwarebytes since it has always been stable ever since.

We later found out that the issue came from the update that went through the Malwarebytes Premium installed on the machine. Upon doing further research, we were not the only one affected by this issue but a lot more people have complained on the Malwarebytes forum pages. Other users have complained that the software was using up to 90 percent or more of the computer’s resources such as memory and CPU.

According to their tweet it says “Please note that we are aware of the current update issues and the complete Malwarebytes team is all hands on deck to fix this ASAP. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

A few hours later, they have released a new update, however it did not completely fix the issues and still having technical difficulties. Succeeding updates have been released since which addressed the memory leak issue. Others have fixed the web protection update causing connection related issues.

The bug in one of their update causes websites being blocked and spiked memory usage and system crashes.

Eventually, they fixed the issue and have released a stable working update that addressed the issue. This is saddening since this is the first time they had a lapse on testing the update before it gets released.

Most computers have been fixed after they have pushed the updates automatically however there are some instances that some computers do not get the updates.

A few computer reboots normally does the trick. To verify if you have received the latest updates you can do the these steps. To verify you have this update, go to Settings -> About -> Update package version: 1.0.3803 or higher should be there.
